The third Under Our Roof home is underway, with construction commencing earlier this month of the floor the apartment will be situated on.
Located 4km from the Royal Adelaide Hospital and 5km from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the apartment in Bowden 354’s On the Park East will provide a home-away-from-home for country cancer patients and their families when travelling to Adelaide for cancer treatment and appointments.
The family-style apartment will include three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, and feature high ceilings, timber strip flooring and stainless-steel Miele appliances.
Currently there are two Under Our Roof homes located near the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woodville which are in high demand. This apartment will be the third Under Our Roof home, with completion on track for March 2020.
Under Our Roof is the only subsidised accommodation available for country cancer patients near Adelaide’s two largest cancer treating hospitals; the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
“I am so grateful we were able to stay in an Under Our Roof home. It meant all our family could come and stay with us, there wasn’t any financial burden for them either to sort out accommodation in Adelaide. Thank you to everyone involved!” Deb Holsman, Whyalla
In 2018, 58 families were sadly turned away as the Under Our Roof homes were booked out.
Mercer SuperCycle 2020 is fundraising for a fourth Under Our Roof house to ensure no more country cancer patients and their families are turned away during a difficult time in their lives.
Under Our Roof is a prime example of community support with the project primarily funded by SuperCycle Inc.
